INFORMATION &
AWARENESS

Awareness Raising

It is the process of informing about the reality of international protection and people forced to flee their homes in order to survive. Through an educational process, the public is made aware of the multiple challenges that asylum seekers and refugees face.

Why is it so important?

The prevalence and increase of racist and xenophobic narratives, in the public and political sphere, put democracy, freedom, the rule of law and all the achievements of a fair and equal society at risk. This type of narrative positions people who are forced to flee to survive as a threat. Worryingly, racism, discrimination and intolerance are precisely the basic causes of forced displacement, historically and currently, of more than a hundred million people. Generalizations, prejudices and moral panics are exploited to create feelings of disquiet, fear and anger towards the Other. These rhetorics subsist thanks to ignorance, but also to the propagation of confusion and false ideas. It is therefore imperative to know reality and correct and demystify ideas.

What we do?

Real change begins in our attitudes and behavior, thanks to education. Community awareness sessions contribute to this change, presenting the current situation and the best attitudes and behavior towards refugees. These intend to raise awareness of the reality and the multiple challenges that refugees face, and inform about the  solution of community sponsorship.

Current and reliable information is presented and critical thinking is stimulated by activities and moments of individual and joint reflection, providing tools and intercultural skills and exploring real stories and testimonies of people at risk and people who are dedicated to supporting those most in need._cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_

Through the awareness sessions, the aim is to inform society and combat stereotypes and prejudices, promoting positive narratives that reflect the importance and need to protect and include refugees, highlighting their contribution and the positive impacts they can bring to the community.
